The homeowner loved the old historical brick walkways on their property but their hardscape structures were falling apart due to years of wear/use and improper installation.

Bates Landscaping recommended reusing the existing old brick and creating new walkways and sitting areas with proper installation. The existing hardscapes were falling apart from improper base material and no edge restraints, the bricks were shifting and becoming loose. We knew the old historical brick still looked great but they just needed some love. Our crews removed the existing bricks from the walkways and sitting areas and stockpiled them for reuse.

We removed the existing base (mostly soil) and installed a proper crushed stone for the bricks to be installed on. Once we had the base compacted and our bedding sand installed, we were able to reinstall the bricks to create the walkway path the homeowner was looking for. Bates Landscaping also recommended dressing the space up by adding new curbstone with texture and color to add contrast to the brick. The curbstone provided dual function by acting as an edge restraint and to keep mulch and other plant debris off the walkway for lower maintenance of the area. In the backyard, the homeowner had two sitting areas that had the same issues as the walkways, improper installation.

Bates recommended installing new materials with proper base and edge restraint so the space can be enjoyed for years. At the end of the job, our crews cleaned the site and finished off by installing grass seed to all disturbed areas returning them back to its original condition. The new walkways and patio areas are now safe for traffic and look amazing while keeping the old look the brick provided.
